Resistance

This is probably my favorite painting so far. As I explain on the blog, this was born out of the Women’s March on Washington after the election of 2016. Using photos from The New York Times Magazine as the first layer, I wanted to recreate the sea of pink pussy hats marching to the capitol. If you look closely at the dark foreground on the lower left, you will see portraits of the trailblazing suffragettes as well as black women activists from the 70’s. We stood on their shoulders that day.
