I need some help. This summer I felt the need to process what happened from the BLM protests of the spring and summer to the January 6th Insurrection. I gathered lots of images from those events and made a collage, with the masked protestors holding signs and demanding the freedom to breathe on the left and the violent Trump supporters trying to stop the election from being certified on the right. To me, the two protests are connected. But how to make this a painting? I started to paint people’s masks and clothing; I highlighted the two tree lines at the top, linking the two halves; I added some vibrant reds to the violent right side. But then I got stuck. Maybe these images should not be covered up and transformed into something else. Do you see a possible painting here? If so, what? Thoughts?
